40th Anniversary of the German-American Club and Andreas Boyde in Spartanburg

Dear Members of the German-American Club of the Carolinas,

Happy 40th Anniversary!

The club was founded in May 1975. We are celebrating the club’s 40th anniversary with special events taking place this year and early next year.  The kick-off event will be Andreas Boyde’s classical piano concert and artist’s reception, Power & Force, performed with the Spartanburg Philharmonic Orchestra on Saturday, September 12th at 7:00 PM in the Twitchell Auditorium of Converse College, 580 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302.  The artist’s reception will immediately follow the concert at Lawson Academy Recital Hall, which is accessible through Twitchell Auditorium.  Andreas Boyde is a well-known German concert pianist, who has performed around the world and who is currently on U.S. tour.  It should be a very fine event.

The club will sponsor 40 free tickets for the 40th that will be distributed among interested club members.  If you are a single member, you can request one ticket.  If you have a family membership, you can request two tickets.  If you are interested in attending, please contact Marlies Welsch at marlies.welsch@gmail.com or (864) 590-9230 by Friday, August 28th.  If there are more requests than tickets available, we will have a drawing.  The winners of the drawing will be announced early September.  Please submit your name only if you are sure that you will attend the concert.  We do not want tickets to go to waste.  Here you will find more information about Andreas Boyde and the concert.

GAC Hosts and Participates in Multiple Exciting Events!

Dear Members and Friends of the German-American Club of the Carolinas,

It has been a busy few weeks for the GAC, with our members and Club participating in and hosting multiple events, including our monthly Stammtisch at Compadre's, the International Festival in Spartanburg, a celebration of the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, a wine tasting at a member family's home, and the TEASE (Transatlantic Exhibition of Art in the Southeast) at USC Upstate's GEORGE in downtown Spartanburg.

The Spartanburg Herald-Journal even provided coverage of the 25th anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall event and reception at Menzel USA...

"The German-American Club of the Carolinas, based in the Upstate, hosted a reception at Menzel Tuesday afternoon, in recognition of the 25th anniversary of the Berlin Wall being torn down on Nov. 9. Those attending enjoyed two traditional German foods - bratwurst and beer."

Our members have done a wonderful job of capturing pictures at each of these events and we invite you to view them and get an inside glimpse of what our Club has been up to if you weren't able to make it to the events. They are displayed at the end of this post but also reside at their gallery pages linked to above.

If you have any pictures of your own you would like added to these galleries, please email them to Dirk Schlingmann at schlingmanndirk@gmail.com.

Have a great month! More news soon. :-)
